What is Wrong With These People?
So, I stumbled upon this story posted on CNN yesterday.
U.S. aircraft carrier moves into position for Afghanistan
I am thinking, "Great! An aircraft carrier moves in to wreak more havoc on the taliban. Sounds great to me. I'll click it and read the article."
Here are the story highlights as posted by CNN:
Read the rest of my rant...
Story HighlightsI think to myself, "The first two I get. The second two, though? How do they apply?" Then I remember, "Oh, yeah. This is CNN. Of course they apply." They can't club us with the death toll in Iraq anymore (can't talk about Iraq - don't want to let the secret out...), so now we get to hear about the escalating violence in Afghanistan and the enormous cost in human life.
- USS Abraham Lincoln has moved from the Persian Gulf into the Gulf of Oman
- Carrier now may conduct airstrikes over Afghanistan by flying over Pakistani airspace
- 46 U.S. and allied personnel were killed in Afghanistan last month
- 28 U.S. troop deaths also marks the highest U.S. monthly death toll in Afghanistan
Well, I thought to myself, "there is no way that half this article can be about the death toll." So, I read it. Well, the editors got it right. Well almost, the second highlight should have been 'President admits it has been a tough month in Afghanistan'.
Of a 322 word article, the first 112 words deal with the USS Abraham Lincoln. The other 210? You guessed it, "WE ARE LOSING!" That is 65% of an article on an aircraft carrier coming to kick some butt, highlighting the US death toll.
I just love this little bit:
At a Rose Garden news conference last Wednesday, Bush responded to reporters' questions about the sobering casualty milestones in Afghanistan.Sound familiar?
As if 65% of an article wasn't enough, check out their Don't Miss section:
Where is the Don't Miss Article on the 20 taliban that were sent to hell the other day via AIR STRIKES? Hmmmmm. Air strikes/aircraft carrier, no connection there.
- Afghan official: Pakistan spies behind Kabul attack
- Gunmen kill 8 police in S. Afghanistan
- Karzai orders probe into deadly U.S. strike
- Bush admits to 'tough month' in Afghanistan
Boy, if I didn't know better, I would think CNN had an agenda or something...
